According to the United States Census Bureau, the population of Broughton in 2019 was 175 people. The village has a small downtown area consisting of a post office, a convenience store, and a community center. The region is primarily agricultural. Broughton enjoys a typical Midwestern climate with warm summers, cold winters, and moderate rainfall throughout the year. The village is located 15 miles northeast of McLeansboro, the county seat of Hamilton County.
